KARACHI – In a significant step toward sustainable industrial operations, International Steels Limited (ISL), a subsidiary of International Industries Limited, has successfully commissioned a 6.4-megawatt (MW) solar power plant at its manufacturing facility in Karachi.
The company disclosed the milestone in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday, stating, “The 6.4MW solar power project at our Karachi factory has been successfully completed and is now fully operational.”
ISL emphasized that the project is part of its long-term sustainability strategy, aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and optimizing operational costs. The solar installation is expected to deliver significant energy savings while helping lower the company’s carbon footprint.
Established in 2007, ISL specializes in manufacturing cold-rolled, galvanized, and colour-coated steel coils and sheets. The company’s move reflects a broader trend in Pakistan’s industrial sector, where businesses are increasingly turning to solar power as a cost-effective and eco-friendly energy solution.
This transition is gaining momentum across various industries. Recent examples include Tariq Corporation Limited’s 200KW solar setup and Olympia Mills Limited’s 500KW off-grid solar project. According to figures shared with the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), Pakistan’s total installed solar capacity surged from 321MW in 2021 to 4,124MW by the end of 2024.
